At a practical level we see leadership as a crucial sub-set of every managerial role. Where there is a requirement for a person to influence, direct and inspire others, leadership ability is required. Further this ability is not cast in concrete within the persona – rather it is an energy potential that every single manager can develop.

To-day leadership is a professional business and in many ways can be compared to a professional sport such as golf. An amateur may choose to hack around from time to time, share a few beers with friends, and stay on a twenty-four handicap for the rest of his life. Alternatively he may choose to become a professional and aspire to become a Tiger Woods or an Ernie Els. In this case he will have to adopt a total regimen of coaching, physical fitness, correct diet, and practice, practice, practice.

It is no different to-day for the professional leader. If you want to be the best you need to hone all your leadership skills – it does not help if you are good with a driver but cannot putt. You will never be a great leader if you are intellectually smart, understand all the business processes but use your personality to repel people!

Quanta sees leadership development not as some sort of mysterious and elusive art, rather as a practical and lifelong journey. If you diligently practise the right things you will become a better leader. If you practise the wrong things or don’t practise at all, your capacity to lead will deteriorate.

HOW MUCH TIME DO I SPEND ‘PRACTISING’ RATHER THAN ‘DOING’ LEADERSHIP?

Do I know what my leadership strengths and weaknesses are?

Firstly the basic energy and motivation must be in place. we need to work with leaders who have the passion and drive to become professionals

Secondly we begin a process of analysis and development. through the following exercises;

• Regular ‘videos’ of the leader in action

Comprising 360 degree assessments using the Quanta Leadership Energy Assessment tool.
• Leadership Energy Workshops.

At these workshops leaders analyse their ‘videos’, understand their leadership ‘DNA’ – relative strengths and weaknesses, set measurable development targets, and most importantly customise unique leadership practice activities designed to increase personal energy and performance.

•The Energy Coach.

Experience has shown us that intellectual cognition seldom leads to real behavioural change. Generally leaders behave under pressure based on all the habits, good and bad, conscious and unconscious that they have developed over a lifetime. This ‘muscle memory’ is in itself a system with its own dynamic equilibrium. Leaders therefore do not change their ‘muscle memory’ simply by reading books or articles, attending lectures or completing case studies. Leaders can only change their ‘muscle memory’ if they know how to practise the right things .
Quanta has developed a specific technique that incorporates Quanta Energy Fractals™, these are customised actions that with high iteration alter leadership ‘muscle memory.
Therefore to change a leader’s behaviour a Quanta Energy Coach is required; this is a co-worker with whom the leader on our programme has an ‘energy’ conversation once a week. The focus is practical, specific and customised around the leader’s energy report, energy objectives, and personal energy fractals. For Quanta, the role of the Energy Coach is not negotiable. All of our research indicates that the leaders who use their Energy Coaches most effectively, are the ones who improve their performance most dramatically. Leaders who do not use an Energy Coach are simply not in a position to reflect on themselves adequately – heightening their self-awareness and self-insight – neither can they reflect on any real progress that they may be making, as quite simply, they cannot see themselves in action.

Thirdly, we introduce leaders to Quanta’s on-line Leadership Energy Modules. Based on Quanta’s in-depth research on leadership energy we believe we know and understand the key triggers of high energy and effective leadership. These include such factors as the drivers that make you the type of person people want to follow for example, the specific way in which you communicate with others, your ability to improve your self-insight, the way you set an inspiring direction, your ability to be positive and passionate about your work and how you attract people with similar passion, your skill in working with and integrating others in a high performance team, how you manage your own health and general lifestyle, and perhaps most importantly, your ability to create passion and loyalty among customers.
When a leader can master all of these, then sustainable growth and superior financial performance will follow naturally.

Leaders receive these modules monthly via email. The modules include an executive summary, analysis of the relevant subject, and practical exercises to be undertaken on-the-job. The leader discusses all aspects of the modules with his/her Energy Coach.

Fourthly we provide a personal on-line Energy Coaching service to each leader throughout the duration of the modules. This service links directly to the Quanta Leadership Energy Reports, the individual leader’s development targets, the actions and Energy Fractals being implemented by each leader, and the leader’s relationship with his/her energy Coach at work.
